Edward Tsai : co-founder
As co-founder of Paradigm Venture Partners, Dr. Tsai sought to create a private equity business with a western organizational culture and related transparency that could tap into the core competencies that have made Taiwan successful.

Dr. Tsai has been involved in more than 120 venture deals. Prior to co-founded Paradigm, he co-founded Maton Venture with Jesse Chen, former Chairman of Monte Jade Technology Association, in 1997. He has been a director and a member of the Investment Review Committee of Maton Venture since then.

Dr. Tsai’s work experience encompasses the Law and Financial Services. Dr. Tsai was with Baker & McKenzie for five years as a corporate and securities attorney. Subsequently, he became President and CEO of Allianz-President General Insurance and President Investment Trust Corporation for six years. During his tenure with the Uni-President Group, a multi-billion dollar conglomerate in Greater China, Dr. Tsai successfully helped his partner – Dr. I-Wei Wu, to build a team and start the first LTPS TFT-LCD venture in Taiwan, – Toppoly. Toppoly’s shareholders include the Uni-President Group, the Compal Group, the TECO Group and Paradigm. More than TWD50 billion (USD1.4 billion) has been invested in the company and Toppoly once produced and sold up to 25% of the world’s demand for LTPS TFT-LCD panels. Toppoly was later on acquired by the Foxconn Group which is the world largest electronic product manufacturer.

Dr. Tsai received his LL. B. degree in Chinese Culture University in 1979. In 1982, he went to the United States and enrolled in Tulane University Law School and subsequently received his LL. M. degree in 1983. In 1985, he again enrolled in Santa Clara University School of Law and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1988. Dr. Tsai passed the California Bar in 1987, one year before he graduated from Santa Clara Law School. From 1990 to 1996, Dr. Tsai was a law professor at the National Chung Hsin University (Renamed to National Taipei University in 2000.)
